Introduction
The Royal Society of the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce through its student award scheme, encourages young designers to think about the application of their skills and knowledge in a broader context: using design-led ideas to address social issues and concerns. Now, through the RSA Flying Start Programme 2007, the RSA in partnership with the NCGE (National Council for Graduate Entrepreneurship), is offering an exciting opportunity to young design/creative graduates with an interest in starting up a design-led enterprise that aspires to create social value through ethical business practice.
The RSA Flying Start Programme is a 12 month business readiness programme that begins with a three-day residential session, supported by personal and online mentoring and focused follow-up meetings and is available to graduates of up to 5 years. Up to 60 individuals will be selected to take part in this years programme that begins with a residential intensive held at Manchester Metropolitan University, Manchester in July 2007.
The business idea may be inspired by concerns about the environment, about everyday health issues or about any other of the many challenges that society faces. If you would like to develop an idea for a business that has a social purpose at its centre, one that could serve and support the wider community, then the 2007 RSA Flying Start programme could give you the start you need.
- You may already be thinking of a great idea for such an enterprise. Your idea could be developed and grown into a sustainable and worthwhile business.
- It maybe a project concept you began on your course, or a personal project for which you have great passion.
- It maybe a social need that you have experienced which has sparked you to think of a better way of serving your community.
- You don't need to have business experience; all you need is passion and determination.
